Wykład gościnny dr Juliane Tiemann pt. Old Norse revisited: Is a unified treatment of Old Icelandic and Old Norwegian justified?

Serdecznie zapraszamy na wykład gościnny dr Juliane Tiemann z Nasjonalt vitenarkiv w Bergen, pt. Old Norse revisited: Is a unified treatment of Old Icelandic and Old Norwegian justified? który odbędzie się w środę 28 stycznia o godz. 13.15, w sali 202A.
Abstrakt:
Old Norse is traditionally presented as a unified linguistic system, referring to Old Icelandic and Old Norwegian. But is this treatment justified in light of the preserved textual evidence? This lecture explores the foundations of this long-standing view and critically examines variation across linguistic levels, manuscript studies, and corpus-based approaches.
It addresses the complexities of determining when and how linguistic divergence begins and the methodological challenges involved in defining “Old Norse.” The discussion aims to inspire new approaches and encourage critical engagement and a re-examination of established assumptions in medieval Nordic linguistics.
